We’re looking for a talented Senior Software Developer to join our Technology team, to help build a range of products and deliver our client support services.

We design and develop digital products and services that help people to live and work better. We’re looking for a talented Senior Software Developer to join our Technology team so we can better meet the increasing demand from our customers in health, education, charities and the public sector, for products and services that really work for people, every day.

The role and you

You’d be joining our friendly Technology team, who work with user researchers, designers, customers and our own technical consultants to build successful digital solutions, using both waterfall and agile processes. We also provide a support and maintenance service to our existing clients through our service desk.   

As a dynamic and enthusiastic Senior Developer, you’ll need to be a self-starter with strong technical knowledge and problem-solving skills. We want passionate people who really care about the work we do and are eager to develop their skills.

You’ll be joining at a time of incredible growth, with exciting and inspiring projects to get stuck into right away, as part of a supportive and collaborative team. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with Nexer's wider group and technical teams working across a range of innovative build projects. 

We actively support our team members to attend conferences globally such as Umbraco CodeGarden, Umbraco UK Festival, SQL Saturday as well as our own events. We encourage our team to participate in event and meetup attendance. In addition, all team members attend our yearly conference Camp Digital.

We also invest in training and have received offsite and onsite training from Umbraco, Optimizely/Episerver, Royal National Institute for the Blind, NCC Group and others in the past few years. All our developers have attended courses for both Umbraco (including certification) and Optimizely/Episerver (including certification).

Skills & knowledge

At Nexer we predominantly develop web applications/sites using the Microsoft Technical Stack (C#, SQL Server), and we utilise Git and Azure DevOps for our build and release processes. The applications we work with primarily use services from Microsoft Azure.  So, experience using any of these tools would be ideal.

We’re looking for people with key technical knowledge in:

  • Microsoft .Net.
  • C#, ASP.Net, MVC, Razor
  • CMS Experience – Umbraco and/or Optimizely (previously Episerver)
  • Visual Studio 2017+
  • SQL Server
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Services
  • HTML, CSS
  • jQuery, AJAX, JSON


In addition, we’d love it if you have experience with:

  • Building mobile, adaptive and responsive solutions
  • React or Angular
  • Building API-centric, RESTful/SOA web applications
  • Headless CMS / Static site generators
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Test Driven Development
  • Working in UK government departments or projects, or awareness of the UK charity and non-profit sector
  • Some experience working in a digital agency or exposure to a similar environment

Salary: £50k to £60k

Benefits: 35hr working week, 28 days paid holiday + public holidays, enhanced company pension, income protection and life insurance, flexible working.

Location: Macclesfield, Cambridge, remote or hybrid.

Hiring process

We will look at all the submissions by 18th August 2023. 

We will be in touch with successful applications to arrange an informal 1st interview, likely via Teams or over the phone. This was last around 30 minutes and will be with Dave Brislane, Head of Technology and Rick Butterfield, Developer Team Lead.

We will then ask for a 2nd interview to go more in depth about the role. We'd like to do this face-to-face at our Macclesfield office (although we can cover this remotely if needed). This will last roughly one hour and will be Dave and Rick again, as well as one of our Squad Leads or Project Management team.

Lastly, we hope to let the successful applicant know our decision no later than 8th September 2023.
